Salt Beach, Casuarina - where luxury and nature meet by the ocean

Salt Beach on a perfect sunny day

Salt Beach at Casuarina, located around a 20 minute drive south from Coolanagatta airport, is one of the Northern Rivers of NSW's best kept secrets and a much loved destination for holidaymakers and locals alike.

For a popular holiday location the beaches are surprisingly empty

From sand mining to sandcastles

Also known as Cotton Beach by locals, Casuarina gets its name from the many Casuarina trees that can be found here, planted after extensive sand mining operations ceased in the 1900s. Since then the beach has undergone an impressive transformation and is now home to prestigious resorts, beachfront houses and a bustling tourism and restaurant scene.

The Salt Village Centre was opened in September 2005 and offers shops, restaurants and a range of services for visitors and the local community. Every Saturday morning at 8am there is a 5km run, the Kingscliff Parkrun, that starts at Bells Boulevard in Salt Village.

The surrounding resort community of Salt Beach is perfectly set-up for holidays and caters well for families with children. Everything you could want is within a short walking distance however you'll feel like you're a million miles from anywhere. There are kilometres of well maintained boardwalks and pathways to walk and cycle on that take you on a journey through heath and grasslands, as well as the usual activities such as surfing, swimming, paddleboarding, snorkelling and other sports. Regeneration for future generations

Sections of Salt Beach have been revegetated to resemble the coastline heathland that once would have prevailed here. Heathland is the name given to vegetation found on nutrient poor soils and is made up of low growing, hardy plants. The regeneration programs that protect the heathlands can be found alongside the boardwalks that border the beach.
